Lorinda is experienced in providing grief therapy through support groups for children, play therapy, and non-directive sand tray play therapy for children and adults. These therapies are based on cognitive behavior therapy, psychotherapy, and education.
Melody Madigan is no stranger to helping the youth of Southwest Florida. After retiring from education, Melody began volunteering at Valerie's House shortly after the program opened in , as a Group Support Facilitator. Realizing that Valerie's House is the perfect place to satisfy her passion for helping youth, she readily accepted a position to help children. She participates in intake interviews, replies to initial family contacts, assists in group activity planning, and her favorite, leading children's support groups.
Melody's years as a school counselor have shown her that there is a tremendous need for grief support and is thrilled to be a part of Valerie's House. Mary started as a volunteer facilitator for the Middle School peer support group and quickly became immersed in Valerie's House. In her role, Mary can utilize her education and passion in an organization whose mission she fully embraces. Mary has seen firsthand how Valerie's House provides a safe, nurturing, and calm environment for children who are grieving and their families.
Mary enjoys her free time with family and friends. Christine spent more than 20 years as an educator in Charlotte County. Christine was a finalist for the Teacher of the Year award in When Christine was a teacher, one of her elementary school students unexpectedly passed away, leaving her to help her students process their grief.
This experience made her realize how important it is to have a place like Valerie's House, where children can grieve and heal together. Christine also knows what it feels like to lose a parent as her mother died from cancer when she was a young adult.
She now calls Valerie's House her second home and is grateful that families have a warm and loving environment at Valerie's House. In Christine's free time, she enjoys playing the piano, bike riding, traveling and camping.
She loves spending time with her husband, two children, two pups, guinea pig. Christine facilitates support groups, participates in intake interviews, assists in planning group activities, makes family contacts, participates in outreach events, and leads children's support groups.
They graduated from our program and have a personal connection to our mission. When she is not working, she likes to spend her time traveling and with family.
